Bangus

Yes, I’m talking about the fish. It’s also the name of the restaurant that Mich and I went to a couple of weeks back. Bangus, as most of you can guess, is a Filipino restaurant that has a lot of fish dishes. The branch we ate in was in Greenhills (near the parking area and Racks). I’m not sure if they’ve already expanded and if they have other branches already but I think they have a good concept going on here and they have the potential for expansion soon.

Mich and I tried the Bangus ala Pobre and Chicken Embutido. But we’ve also tried other dishes before and I’ll mention them as well in the review after the jump.

The Bangus ala Pobre was one of the top recommended dishes by the waiter so that’s what we ordered. They serve premium cuts of Bangus (with the yummy black belly part) in a sizzling plate. Honestly it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. It was grilled/fried Fish without the bone. The taste was the same. Dish was also a bit pricey at around P240.

Chicken Embutido

While I was going through the menu, this particular dish caught my eye. I’ve always loved embutido ever since I was a kid. I was almost about to order it until I saw the price tag. P390. I was really surprised because I’ve never paid so much before for Embutido. However, curiosity got the best out of me and I ended up ordering it. One of the reasons why it’s probably expensive is because of the huge serving. It can actually feed 3-4 people. It also tastes really good and I liked this more than the Bangus ala Pobre which was supposedly their specialty.

Other than the dishes I just discussed, I’ve also tried their Sinigang and Bangus Rolls. The Sinigang na Baboy is very good – the soup is really strong and brings out an authentic Sinigang flavor. I’ve never been a fan of Sinigang that had mild soup. Their Bangus Rolls (Lumpia) is also superb. I remember taking out this particular dish so I could share it with the people at home because it was great.

In terms of customer service, they need to train their waiters more. When I asked them what dish they could recommend, they just answered “Bangus”. They have like 10 variations of that fish so that wasn’t really a big help. They also serve food here slowly and the waiter made two mistakes with our drinks. I ordered Coke Light and he gave me Coke Regular, I asked him to change it to Coke Light and he gave me Coke Zero. Gave up after that and just had the Coke Zero.

Not a good place for dating. Ideal for family lunches. Nothing really special though that will make you remember this restaurant for months. Hopefully they improve service and come up with more innovative and delicious offerings soon.
