Cookbook Kitchen

Cookbook Kitchen is a small, cozy, and hidden restaurant along the inner streets of Mandaluyong. This is a classic example of why you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. From the outside, the restaurant looks like a normal house with a few tables at the garage. Upon entering the place, it’s nothing special – just your average restaurant put inside a house. But I almost fell of my chair after I started eating. The food here is just phenomenal!

Name: Cookbook Kitchen
Location: Mandaluyong
Type: Insanely good food (lol)
Price Range (per dish): P200 – P400

My complete review of this stellar restaurant after the jump.

Let’s start with the CBK Chicken. It’s cooked with basil and various other herbs and spices. What’s interesting here is that it also has cheese and ham stuffed inside. It comes with pesto sauce that you can use to enhance the over-all flavor of the dish. It costs P290 but the serving is really good for 2. Just order extra rice if you’re on a tight budget and you can already have a low-cost date.

CBK Parmesan Crusted White Fish

Next up is my favorite! CBK’s Parmesan Crusted White Fish costs only P260 but just looking at it and inhaling the delicious baked scent will get your appetite roaring. Imagine all the meaty goodness of really fresh fish without the hassle of de-boning it. It’s just one bite of heaven after the other. Just like the CBK Chicken, the serving can be good for 2 people. I simply love this dish and I will not hesitate getting myself lost for an hour or two just looking for the restaurant again just to be able to taste it again.

CBK Pork Steak

Last, but definitely not the least, is their Pork Steak. They serve this with honey mustard and rosemary spices which makes it a very different and distinct versus your average pork steak served at home or by other restaurants. Again, its another affordable offering at only P260 – and yes, it can feed 2 people.

Before I rate it, let me just say that the customer service here is also good. We talked to the waiter for a bit and he was the one who recommended that dishes that we asked for. There was this one rather expensive one that we considered getting but he said that it would be better to go for variety and order several more affordable dishes so we can fully experience Cookbook Kitchen. Talk about intelligent waiters, lol. I didn’t get his name but man the owners should promote that guy.

Since it’s a bit hidden, this is actually ideal for dates. You can bring your loved one here for a romantic urban getaway (lol) and show him or her that you have good taste for food. It’s also not that expensive. You can just order two of the dishes (make sure you get the fish) and just share.

Thanks to Lieza for bringing me over to Cookbook Kitchen. This place is really a gem and I’ll definitely be going back as soon as I remember HOW to go there, hahaha! Since I don’t have a map, let me just share with everyone the address: #8 Socorro Fernandez Street Corner Luna Mencias, Mandaluyong City.

UPDATE: Here’s a map which I got from their Multiply site. :)

If you are coming from Shaw from the Edsa end, you have to turn right on Torres St along Shaw Blvd before reaching 9 de Febrero. Turn left in Araullo treat and left again immediately in the Socorro Fernandez st. If you are coming from Greenhills, It is a lot easier since you just need to pass P. Guevarra st. in Wilson towards Shaw Blvd along the Luna Mencias st. Turn left to Socorro Fernandez st and you will not miss it.

I often see this on my way office.. dinadaanan kasi to ng mga FX na biyaheng JRU ~ Megamall/Ortigas area.. tsaka pag nagshortcut ang mga taxi sa addition hills to avoid traffic from shaw, nadadaan din nila to madalas. :)

    It’s near pure gold shaw.
