Met with my auntie again last weekend to discuss some matters for her business. She was good enough to treat me out to a restaurant that I’ve been hearing a lot about lately – Elbert’s Cheesesteak. It’s located at the basement of the Power Plant mall, just near Dulcinea. They mainly serve gigantic sandwiches and sidings like French Fries. I was a bit disappointed when I first found out since I’m a rice person but this all changed when I was finally able to take a bite out of their scrumptious Cheesesteak sandwich.

My full review of Elbert’s Cheesesteak after the jump!
Let’s start with the main course – the sandwiches. They basically offer four types. The basic steak sandwich has beef and onions and it’s priced at P290. The American Cheesesteak has that plus American cheddar cheese and it’s priced at P320. They also have the Provolone Cheesesteak which has Provolone cheese instead of American cheddar and it costs P390. Lastly, they have the Pizza Cheesesteak at P420 which has beef, onions, provolone, and marinara sauce.
I tried the Provolone Cheesesteak and it was really overwhelming. The sheer size of the sandwich was really daunting, even for someone as big as me. You can easily split the sandwich between two people, making it more affordable at around P190-P200. That’s a Mcdonald’s Double Quarterpounder already. Believe me, the Provolone Cheesesteak trumps all the burgers that Mcdonald’s and even Wendy’s has ever produced, ever. The beef that they use in the sandwich is imported from the US and the quality is just really good. It was very juicy, tasty, and just sinfully delicious! I’d love to have that beef with rice, hahaha!

Burgers wouldn’t be complete without fries! A side order of fries here costs P60. Just like their burgers though, they serve A LOT. You can easily split it for 2-3 people. I loved the fries here because it had the right texture. Not too crunchy and not too soft. Just right and it had a very distinct taste.

If I would have one complaint about Elbert’s Cheesesteak, it would just be their location and their over-all set-up. I know they’re not supposed to be fine dining but it was really cramped there. People had a hard time moving because the seats and the chairs were clumped together near the counter. I even had my head hit by a bag while a lady was rushing to go to the CR, lol. They should also consider expanding their menu in the future because the cheesesteak will eventually get old. It’s a novel idea at first but if they want to expand and sustain the business, then they should invest more in product development to come up with more compelling and unique offerings.

Another close perfect score! Same issue mentioned above. Would love to see this move to a more comfy and nice location. You know – a place where I can stretch my legs a bit and hang out with friends. Right now it looks more like a take-out kind of restaurant than dine-in. Note that I gave a 4 for the price because you can easily share the dishes as I mentioned earlier, making it actually affordable.

• I tried Elbert’s Provolone Cheesesteak the other day and it does taste good but the price is a rip-off. A cousin of mine who works at a call center in emerald avenue, ortigas brought me to a place called BANCHETTO. She said that she’s hooked into philly cheesesteaks being sold by a lady vendor in one of the food stalls at BANCHETTO. Her food stall is called A LA TEP.So we gave it a try and whoa it blew us off!!!
The beef is so tender, juicy and well-seasoned. The creamy condiment adds rich flavor to the beef and its sauteed onions gives a bit of spice. The melted cheese is really awesome. She uses a steak roll by French Baker and it’s the perfect bread match, crunchy on the outside and kindda soft inside. And on top of it all we only paid P80 for such a delicious sandwich. The aroma of the beef is really pleasant. Based on its taste and value, it’s definitely one of the best tasting cheesesteak sandwiches we’ve ever tried!!! We just hope that she’ll make a much bigger size sandwich, say an 8-inch steak roll will definitely satisfy all our cravings. Kudo’s to that lady in black shirt with red apron!!!
