Okay, let’s kick things off in this blog with some reviews I’ve already done in some of my other sites. A few months ago, Mich (my girlfriend), Faith (my sister), and myself went to a restaurant along Mother Ignacia called Gusi’s. It’s the same place where Congo Grille used to be (they moved to Trinoma). Since there was a big tarpaulin saying they had a 20% discount because of their opening, we found ourselves rushing in. Gusi’s is primarily a specialty Filipino restaurant food. It’s your lutong-bahay but made and presented in a much more classy manner.

We asked the waiter what were the best sellers of the restaurant and he immediately replied “Longganisa Nachos, Sinigang, and Liempo.” Since this was our first time here, we decided to take the waiter’s advice and ordered all the recommended dishes. In less than 5 minutes, the first dish was served – the infamous Longganisa Nachos.

Here’s where we hit a snag. The nachos were fantastic but it lacked more Longganisa bits. Don’t get me wrong though, the combination of Longganisa plus tomatoes, salsa, and nachos was actually a pleasant surprise. If the chef added more meat into this, this would be a superb appetizer. Oh and please take out the Mango slices. I just don’t like having sweet fruits mixed into Nachos. It’s a good thing though that the next dish more than made up for the appetizer.

Gusi’s Sinigang na Baboy was something we really looked forward to eating. Both Mich and I are fans (lol) of Sinigang and Gusi’s definitely was one of the best we’ve tasted. The soup was perfect for us – we kinda like the tamarind taste to be strong in our Sinigang. Another good thing to note was the servings. This dish cost us P230 but it was good for more then 4 people. We couldn’t even finish it. Gusi’s Sinigang na Baboy was the highlight of this trip.

Next up is Gusi’s Pork Liempo… sadly I wasn’t too happy with this one. If there’s one fatal mistake you can make when serving Liempo it’s giving out slices of meat that’s 80% fat, 20% meat. This was a total waste of money for us since we rarely bit into the scrumptious pork that was promised to us in the picture of the dish in the menu (LOL).
SUMMARY
Over-all the trip to Gusi’s was okay. It wasn’t a visit that I’d remember and crave for again sometime in the future but it was still worth mentioning in this blog. The restaurant also has some issues with the place itself since we had mosquito problems when we first ate there a few months ago. We dropped by again I think sometime in December and fortunately there were no more mosquitoes. But we had problems eating because they were repainting that time and the smell of paint literally ruined the meal.
Here’s my over-all rating of Gusi’s Restaurant:
Rating Card
1 – Waste of money
2 – Satisfactory – just okay. Nothing special
3 – Wow, something to remember.
4 – OMGWTFBBQ I WANT MOREZZ PLZZ
FOOD QUALITY: 2

GUSI’S RESTAURANT OVER-ALL RATING: 2.25
I won’t actively find myself wanting to go back but if I was in the area, I’d probably think of the place. They need to have new dishes, clean up the area to get rid of the mosquitoes, and hopefully the paint job will be done when I get back.

My mouth watered when I saw the Sinigang. Haha!
Was the longganisa they used in the Nachos the sweet kind, or the garlicky kind?
