Mister Kebab

Okay, as promised here’s my review of the legendary Mister Kebab restaurant. Why do I say it’s legendary? Well, other than the fact that they’ve been operating for ages, they’re also known as one of the best after-gimik places. Mister Kebab is usually jam packed during ungodly hours. What’s surprising is that the crowd here is really varied, and like what I said in my previous post, it’s an experience in itself just dining here because you get to see so many different kinds of people. I’ve been going here for almost a decade now and I have a lot of memories eating here when I was still actively playing Judo in High School (hahaha!). Here’s a picture of my favorite dish here:

Name: Mister Kebab
Location: West Avenue
Type: Persian Food
Price Range (per dish): P100 – P200

My full review of Mister Kebab after the jump.

Let’s start with my favorite – the Sizzling Keema with Eggplant. It’s basically ground beef mixed with various Persian spices, gravy, and tomatoes, and eggplant. I absolutely LOVE this dish because of the quality, quantity, and the price. Actually, most of the dishes here at Mister Kebab are really affordable. Most of them are below the P150 mark. By the way, there’s so much ulam here that you’ll probably order extra rice. Sometimes though the people who prepare the dish overdo it and they literally drown out the meat with the gravy. Lol.

Chelo Kebab

This is another staple order for a lot of people. In terms of quality though, the kebabs being sold here pale in comparison to the quality sold by King Kebab and Arya. But you’re not really paying like more than P200 for it so it’s good for the price. Mister Kebab is not really a fine dining place anyway.

Beriyani Rice

This is the favorite of my good friend, Paul. It’s a beef mixed with gravy and various spices. Let me give all of you a warning that this dish is a bit spicy. If you’re weak with spicy stuff like me, you should stay clear from this one. I tried eating it and I gave up after 5-6 spoonfuls. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about this one though from people who like spicy food so if you’re into hot stuff, then you’ll want to try this out. :)

If I were to review Mister Kebab when they were in their original location along Quezon Avenue, I would have trashed them completely. I still remember how bad the chairs were back then and you would have problems eating since a lot of beggars would crash Mister Kebab to ask for spare change and left over food. Since they moved to West Avenue, I can’t say anything bad anymore with regards to the place and the service. They increased the number of waiters so much that it only takes a few seconds for someone to get to you when you raise your hand. For those changes, let me give the owners two thumbs up! Oh, I love the fact they made a provision for parking too. Parking at the old place used to be hell. So many stories going around of people that get broken windows and stolen side mirrors.

If I had an awards night for all the restaurants in the Metro, I’d give Mister Kebab the award for the best after-gimik restaurant. If the owners ever manage to find their way to this blog, let me just say that you guys rock and you should keep up the good work. Cheers!

i’ve been eating at mister for ages now. i love the food most especially the beryani rice. somehow i get this bad service from them a few times but luckily it still does not affect the feeling of wanting to go back again and again.

I’ve been out of the country but once i get back im pretty sure i’ll be eating there once again. btw,i love the new location. more spacious and somehow a lot more Mediterranean in feeling:)

@Zelatine: You hit it on the spot. The old location didn’t feel Mediterranean at all. The other good thing is that now there’s really nice parking at the front and at the back! :)

hi, just stumbled upon your site and i love how you enjoy eating. in critiquing, you don’t really dissect the food down to the point that it doesn’t sound like a normal eating experience anymore as other ‘critiques’ do.

anyway, i’m a fan of persian food. i’m very lucky to live in a neighborhood where good persian joints are just a few mins drive – mr. kebab will take me less than 5 mins by car. But i can’t believe you haven’t blogged about Behrouz (at least not under the Persian Restaurants Category). i still think they’ve got the best sauce which makes the biggest difference. you can also try ababu along xavierville ave., they used to be in UP village. super value for money!

    happy eating!

Hi Kebabi! Thanks for the comment. About Ababu, I’ve eaten there several times. I haven’t been there again though since andami na na hold-up dun before so I’ll try to eat there again when the sun is still up.

For Behrouz, don’t worry, it’s in my list! :)

I’ve tried MK so many times due to many positive blogs about it.

While I think service is fast and the ambiance quite nice for its price, their food is just so-so (bordering unedible) and nothing to write about.

I see MK food more of a stomach filler rather than to be enjoyed. Its like the fast food of kebabs. Very cheap and always available.

Now don’t get me wrong as I’m a HUGE kabab/shawarma/doner fan and I’ve been to alot of Middle Eastern restaurants throughout Europe and the Philippines and MK is just nowhere near the good ones in terms of taste.

I guess I’ll have to try that sizzling keema with eggplant next time :)

  13. I tried this restoraunt and dont know what the fuss is about. Pinoys need to go to Europe and then you will know what real food it.

To Robin Kennedy,,, what’s the fuzz about this place? It is the fun we experience being with so many kinds of people, at the weirdest hours of the night, eating the scariest of food like ox brain… You can have your Europe, we’ll have our Metro anytime…
