Paul, Mich, and I went over to Eastwood last week to watch Angels and Demons. However, the cinemas were already all booked so we just decided to eat at a new restaurant. We spotted a really cozy joint in the ground floor of the Eastwood City Veranda (the new mall area) called My Thai Kitchen. Since I haven’t eaten Thai food since the days of S.R. Thai (across Ateneo), I decided to check it out.

Complete review of the restaurant after the break.

The waiter recommended we try their specialty - Breaded Fried Tilapia. I wasn’t really inclined to order it but since it was one of their best dishes, I decided to give it a try. It’s a bit pricey though at P320+. It wasn’t really great for me, it was just okay. I mean, you can only do so much with Tilapia and I don’t think they made it special enough for it to be a main draw for their restaurant. Also, the serving wasn’t too big. Kinda disappointed after all the hype the waiter gave this dish.

Next up is Lechon with Kangkong. Okay, scrap the pork coz it’s all fat. However, the Kangkong and the sauce they used is just heavenly. I seriously can eat the Kangkong with rice and be satisfied. In fact, I think the first thing to go on our table was the Kangkong. Really good order for My Thai Kitchen. Would recommend you order this if you eat here.

We also ordered their Chicken Pandan. I had high expectations because I’ve always been a Chicken Pandan lover. However, this dish wasn’t able to live up to my standards. The chicken wasn’t marinated enough and it tasted a bit bland. The texture of the meat was okay but then again the reason why you want Chicken Pandan is for the rich flavor, something which My Thai Kitchen wasn’t able to deliver.

Nothing really that will blow you out of your mind. If there’s anything that I loved about this place other than the Kangkong, it was how they set-up the restaurant. I liked the chairs, tables, kitchenware, and how they decorated the walls. Whoever is the interior designer of this restaurant should get more jobs in the future.

You shoulda tried the curries. Based on what you ordered, it’s like you went to a chinese restaurant just an ordered sweet and sour pork.

PS, never trust the waiters (unless it’s a well-established restaurant), they’ll just push the expensive items so the get a bigger service charge.
