Sbarro’s

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always had the hots (lol) for lasagna. Why? Well it’s because of the furry and fat orange cat that we all know as Garfield! My brother collected a lot of Garfield stuff and I ended up reading the comic books and other stuff about him – including his obsession with lasagna. Which brings me to this question… where do you usually go to satisfy your lasagna craving? For me, I have one answer – Sbarro’s.

Garfield must be dying with jealousy now

Full review of Sbarro’s after the jump.

I think you can’t really review Sbarro’s correctly if you don’t talk about their three main dishes – their Lasagna, Spaghetti, and Pizza. For starters, let’s talk about the Lasagna. Personally I really find it to be the best Lasagna in terms of quality compared to the price you’re paying for it. I love Sbarro’s Lasagna because of the quality of the cheese, the juicy meat, and the over-all balance of the ingredients. Usually restaurants overdo either the pasta, the cheese, or the meat. For Sbarro’s, the balance is just spot on and you can really get the full flavor of the dish after just one spoonful. I’m not 100% sure but I think the Lasagna and other pasta dishes cost around P150 – P200. I know what you’re thinking… “That much for pasta!?”. Believe me, it’s worth it. There were times that I couldn’t finish the Lasagna because of the huge servings. Lol.

Next up is my girlfriend’s favorite here at Sbarro’s – their Spaghetti with Meatballs. I’ve tried this several times but I’m really more a fan of the Lasagna. All I can say about this is that the quality of the noodles is superb. It’s not too soft or too hard – it’s just right. The size of the Meatballs also makes the dish heavy and can satisfy even big men like me. Well, you can actually order extra rice and eat the Meatballs with it if you’re really more of a rice than pasta person, lol.

Okay, when I first found out the price of their pizza, I was really surprised and a bit annoyed. I mean this is the first time that I’m going to pay for more than P100 for a slice of pizza! Talk about overpriced! After some convincing from Mich, I finally decided to give it a go and my oh my I understand why people go “ga-ga” over this one. The pizza is actually multi-layered from the top and even on the inside. It’s more of a meat pie than your normal pizza because of all the toppings and cheeses that they use on it.

Sbarro’s pasta and pizza past the test but I strongly recommend against ordering their rice dishes cause well… they all suck. You can’t have everything right? Lol. I’ve tried their chicken and it was really disappointing. It was cold and even their special rice didn’t taste too well.

If there is one more thing that I don’t like is how they serve their food. Sbarro’s makes the customers line up and this is normally okay but the problem is the line sometimes goes out of the restaurant due to the deluge of customers during lunch or dinner time. That combined with seating problems makes eating here sometimes troublesome. It’s a good thing that the serve really nice pasta and pizza or else I don’t think I could stand waiting for so long just to get my food.

Who should eat here? Well, everyone who likes Pasta and Pizza should definitely try it. It’s not really a romantic spot for dates but you know those times where you just want to chill and eat out with friends or your girlfriend? This is a nice place for that since the food is good. Caution about the long lines though… they can really turn into giant anaconda-like in length, lol.

The first time I ate at Sbarro was about two years ago. Me and my sister, who back then, worked at the same call center as me was dragged over to Sbarro SM Mega Mall for a Saturday lunch by our supervisors (KKB… /sob). I was a real cheapskate when it came to food and I only ate out at fast food chains, ordering the cheapest value meals. However, that fist time I went to Sbarro was during a payday weekend so I had money to spare and the added pressure of not looking cheap to my supervisors got to me. That was the first time I paid more than a hundred Pesos for a meal, but OH MY! It was good. I remember that I got the Spaghetti and Meatballs and a Slice of White Deep Dish Pizza. My sister was on a “diet” and got a salad but I’ll just say she enjoyed my Pizza more than her salad. It made me realize that good food can be expensive but good food will always be worth it. I can honestly say that Sbarro started my restaurant tours and if not for that time I may still be a loyal McJobee Burger centavo pinching cheapskate.

Is that the Chicago Deep Dish White Pizza? That is heavenly. I ordered (delivery) a whole one last vacation and it took us 3 days to finish (we also got Spaghetti and Meatballs). Lol.

I’m not a fan of the pasta, I’d much rather eat more pizza than pasta. That includes the lasagna.

i would prefer to Italianis than sbarro

  4. wauksNo Gravatar says:

@Pogi: Italiani’s has excellent food but I think Sbarro’s still has the better lasagna, hehe.

    @Dodge: yep, that’s the pizza. Its the first time nabusog ako sa isang pizza slice. o_o;

@Goose: Yep, good food is definitely worth paying for :)

sbarro great! i remember eating there atleast twice a week about 3years ago.

well first you’d think its cheap gourmet food, but not until you try it. its served almost fresh, ‘coz its pre-cooked and just assembled along the line. and the yes the lasagne its scrumptiously delightful!

though the red sauce meatball spaghetti i would vouch for TOSH..hehe

    padag dag lang..

    IMO italianis is over rated..

About the lasagna: Too. Much. Sauce.

And the sauce is too watery too. I always ask them to go easy on the external sauces. Otherwise it drowns out the pasta and ruins the texture of the food.

  8. wauksNo Gravatar says:

Hey Ritchie, is that you? How’s Mitch and your daughter? :)

Yeah, I tell them not to drown the pasta with sauce too.

  13. This is the best pizza (in terms of quantity and enjoyment of eating it, not to mention they show how they make it (visible glass outside guarantees freshness) and lasagna in the world. I order a lot of it. And one pizza slice satisfies me all day long.

It is located in Glorietta where I eat there (moved to SM Megamall due to the Oct 19,2008 explosion)

Good for take out as well and better replacment for rice since rice is prohibited.

  14. wauksNo Gravatar says:

They have rice meals but they all suck. ^^; Their pizza and pasta are really really really good though. Agree with you that one slice can last a looooong time. :)

  15. there are just 3 things that i order here– NY style white pizza, cheese pizza or baked ziti w/ red sauce.

i still think that sbarro is just the italian “jollibee”. their spinach lasagna is too divine to be healthy. i and my sister both notice that all their pizzas, cheap and expensive, taste just the same. didn’t you notice?
can anybody recommend any moroccan restos? thanks..ill be thankful!
