Sizzling Pepper Steak is starting to get a lot of attention in the past few months. As like with other restaurants that become famous and profitable, the marketing is mostly word-of-mouth. The person who invited me to check this place out was no other than my boss and the CEO of Level Up, Jane Walker. My first Sizzling Pepper Steak dining experience was in their branch in Power Plant. After that, I was able to eat at their Katipunan and Promenade branches as well.

Sizzling Pepper Steak is one of the good examples of marketing a different kind of dining experience to get attention. Unlike your other steak places, here you are served the food half cooked. Apparently the plate that they use is some sort of uber device which continues to cook the food even if it’s not on the fryer anymore. If you order their main staple dish – the Beef Pepper Steak, you’ll have to pour the sauce on it and turn the beef over for the other side to get cooked as well.
So… why didn’t the waiter or the cook turn it over for you? Lol. There could be a billion reasons why. The best one that I can think of is that so you can enjoy the food “freshly cooked” or something to that effect.
For the taste, it’s actually very nice. It’s a different take on a seemingly ordinary dish. The spices and herbs that they used to marinate the beef really gives it a strong taste. The only thing I hate about this is that you’ll end up with a burnt tongue when you’re really hungry and you want to eat it as soon as it’s served.
Other than that, I’ve also tried their Chicken and Salmon Teriyaki. I have nothing but praises for those two dishes. If you will go to Katipunan, make sure to order the Chicken. If you’re going to Rockwell / Power Plant, be sure to try out the Salmon. Believe me, it is worth the trip and the money.

All in all Sizzling Pepper Steak is a decent place to go to. It’s good for families or dates if you go to the branch in Power Plant. The branch in Promenade feels too “Fast Foody” so I would really prefer to eat somewhere else.

Is there a Sizzling Pepper Steak in Rockwell too?
The original one is in Rockwell, it’s called Pepper Lunch. Try that, too. I believe there are some differences. It’s more pricey but it’s fine.
Pepper Lunch is the original and i recommend you to try that !! They say you can really taste the difference! I’m gonna try soon maybe by april =)
I think same owners DOdge. Not 100% sure. The food is practically the same except for the Salmon. That’s why I pointed out that you can only get the Salmon in the Power Plant branch. But yeah, it’s called Pepper Lunch over there. o_o Makes you wonder why… lol.
Sizzling Pepper steak and Pepper lunch are different.
Pepper Lunch is the original from Japan. It costs more, and it uses these patented ceramic type sizzling plates that use some micro waves or something like that to continue cooking. Sizzling pepper steak is the knock off that uses special sizzling plates to try to copy the effect. I’ve tried both, both are good, Pepper Lunch is better in taste but pricier, Sizzling Pepper steak is good taste cheaper price.
They have different owners.
im not 100% sure din. pero ang alam ko sizzling pepper steak’s owner is the same as pancake house and teriyaki boy. i like pepper lunch better, but i like singapore’s pepper lunch better than the branches here in manila (rockwell, shang)
I don’t like Pepper Lunch… 2 reasons why…
1. It’s too pricey. For a very quick meal and I am the one cooking my food, so do I get service charge for myself from Pepper Lunch?
2. When I go out from the restaurant. I literally STINK from the smell of grilling.
Hi,
Pepper Lunch and Sizzling Pepper Steak aren’t owned by SAME company.
Pepper Lunch got better technology as the food remains hot for 20minutes (plus) thanks to their uber unique technology of the plate, compared to the Sizzling Pepper Steak that uses the regular hot plates…
What’s good about the PL is that they serve the steaks raw and the plate’s heat can cook it!!!
I’m not in anyway connected to any of these brands… for more info please visit this link… http://www.pepperlunch.com.ph/
Hope that helps…
I love pepper steak (almost as much as I like pepper) but the closest restaurant that serves pepper steak I can go to is a Star Carrots. I like their steaks fine but there’s nothing extraordinary about them.
Last week one of our Team Leads and some of my workmates ate at Pepper Lunch, Shangri-La and they’ve been raving about it since. Next time I go to SM Megamall (for a convention or something) I’ll do a quick hop to Shangri-La and try it. If it’s even half as good as they say it’ll be worth it.
Man if they have different owners it’s weird that they serve almost the same kind of food. Thanks for the correction guys. Will make edits.
It’s a battle between who serves the best Pepper Steak here in PI.
Ok… call me bias but Pepper Lunch is known in other countries too and thank heavens for Ms. Cecile and Chef Jeroen for having a franchise here in Manila…
Mr. Foodcritic,
So I guess, I’ll be seeing a post on Pepper Lunch in the near future…
@Margarette: Yep, definitely. Will make it a point to go there soon. I actually ate there once already with my office mates. Maybe you can introduce me to the owners! Would love to do an interview with them and post it there.
The owner of Pepper Lunch has a blog http://chuvaness.livejournal.com and she has already complained about the blatant rip-off Sizzling Pepper Steak is of Pepper Lunch. SPS started here first but PL is the original concept that was franchised by Ms. Cecile.
I’ve eaten at PL already and it is good but expensive nga. I still have to try Sizzling Pepper Steak.
Hi Marissa! Thanks for the link. Will visit now.

Hi there Wauks!
I am Jeroen, the owner of Pepper Lunch and i would love to meet up so we can talk about the unique dining concept that PL is. I will show you behind the scenes how we heat up our electromagnetic iron plates in 1 minute to 260 C.
email me so we can set a day to meet up!
cheers jeroen
@Jeoren: Hey man will certainly send you an e-mail soon. Cheers!
Hi Wauks!
i love your readers. they’re so updated. hope to meet you at Pepper Lunch to let you know the difference. keep on blogging!
cecile
but i read somewhere that the sizzling pepper steak was opened before pepper lunch… who cares if it’s slightly the same concept? we have sizzling plates being used in loads of other restaurants. it all just depends on the execution and stuff.
i have yet to try pepper lunch, but i’ve eaten in the sizzling pepper steak already. i’d have to say that the staff was very attentive, and the ambiance was great. another reason why i like tsps more than pl is cause of its overall look (sorry, just being honest). i’m sure pl is good though. haha, sharing!
