I was actually really surprised when I ate here since the quality of the food they’re serving is actually pretty nice. The presentation of the dishes is also something that’s very commendable and the waiters were also very helpful and knowledgeable in their menu. That’s actually a bit rare these days. For Jozu, we had the Grilled Angus, Kani Bacon, Jozu Supreme, Tempura, and the Jozu Kamameshi Fried Rice. Ate with Mich and my sister, Faith.

Jozu’s Grilled Angus

QUICKIE FACT SHEET
Name: Jozu
Location: Mother Ignacia (Near ABS-CBN and Rembrandt)
Type: Japanese Restaurant
Price Range (per dish): P150 – P600

Find out how the food tastes after the jump!

Let’s start with what I just posted above – the Jozu Grilled Angus. According to the waitress, this was one of their best sellers. It was a bit pricey though at P515. Kimono Ken and other Japanese restaurants usually sell their steaks at around the P300 price range. Since we had a little excess budget, I decided to go for it. I kinda understand why it’s their best seller – it’s just fantastic! The cut of the meat was perfect. It was juicy, had a little fat, and soft. It’s not your usual rubbery steak. I do have one complaint though… for P515 it’s kinda “bitin”. I would have loved this even more and wouldn’t hesitate to order it again if they increased the servings.

Here’s another classic Japanese dish – Kamameshi Fried Rice. They serve it in a rather weird looking box. You have to mix it yourself. Hmm… you know what’s funny? We end up paying more for the “dining experience” than the food sometimes. I mean come on! You’ll be the one to mix and then you pay more? Similar to eating at Hot Pots like Tong Yang. You pay 600 bucks per head to cook food. Lol. Anyway, the fried rice was also nice. Only complaint here was the price. They sold it at P147. Only good for 1 person.

The two women in my life – my girlfriend Mich and my sister Faith

I didn’t bother taking pictures of the other dishes. Let me just run through them now. The Tempura 5 pieces cost P258 but it wasn’t as good as Kimono Ken. Too much breading for me but the shrimp was okay in size and taste so I wouldn’t go as far as bashing it. The Jozu Supreme (Seafood Tepanyaki) hit us for around P285. It had shrimp, squid, and fish. Personally I liked it. I’ve always been a fan of Seafood Tepanyaki. Same complaint though – I find it a bit pricey at P285.

SUMMARY

Rating Card
1 – Waste of money
2 – Satisfactory – just okay. Nothing special
3 – Wow, something to remember.
4 – OMGWTFBBQ I WANT MOREZZ PLZZ

FOOD QUALITY: 3
DISH PRICES VS QUALITY: 2
CUSTOMER SERVICE: 4
RESTAURANT CLEANLINESS: 4
RESTAURANT OVER-ALL RATING: 3.25

Because of the location, the presentation/quality of the food, and the customer service, Jozu actually makes for a decent date spot. It’s not your typical Japanese fast food and it presents an over-all good dining experience. Personally, I’ll be going back here sometime soon. I wanna try out the other dishes in the menu.

Here’s one of the dishes that I had the pleasure of munching on for lunch:
