Why do I say it’s legendary? Well, other than the fact that they’ve been operating for ages, they’re also known as one of the best after-gimik places. Mister Kebab is usually jam packed during ungodly hours. What’s surprising is that the crowd here is really varied, and like what I said in my previous post, it’s an experience in itself just dining here because you get to see so many different kinds of people. I’ve been going here for almost a decade now and I have a lot of memories eating here when I was still actively playing Judo in High School (hahaha!). Here’s a picture of my favorite dish here:

Keema with Eggplant

QUICKIE FACT SHEET
Name: Mister Kebab
Location: West Avenue
Type: Persian Food
Price Range (per dish): P100 – P200

My full review of Mister Kebab after the jump.

Let’s start with my favorite – the Sizzling Keema with Eggplant. It’s basically ground beef mixed with various Persian spices, gravy, and tomatoes, and eggplant. I absolutely LOVE this dish because of the quality, quantity, and the price. Actually, most of the dishes here at Mister Kebab are really affordable. Most of them are below the P150 mark. By the way, there’s so much ulam here that you’ll probably order extra rice. Sometimes though the people who prepare the dish overdo it and they literally drown out the meat with the gravy. Lol.

Chelo Kebab

This is another staple order for a lot of people. In terms of quality though, the kebabs being sold here pale in comparison to the quality sold by King Kebab and Arya. But you’re not really paying like more than P200 for it so it’s good for the price. Mister Kebab is not really a fine dining place anyway.

Beriyani Rice

This is the favorite of my good friend, Paul. It’s a beef mixed with gravy and various spices. Let me give all of you a warning that this dish is a bit spicy. If you’re weak with spicy stuff like me, you should stay clear from this one. I tried eating it and I gave up after 5-6 spoonfuls. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about this one though from people who like spicy food so if you’re into hot stuff, then you’ll want to try this out.

If I were to review Mister Kebab when they were in their original location along Quezon Avenue, I would have trashed them completely. I still remember how bad the chairs were back then and you would have problems eating since a lot of beggars would crash Mister Kebab to ask for spare change and left over food. Since they moved to West Avenue, I can’t say anything bad anymore with regards to the place and the service. They increased the number of waiters so much that it only takes a few seconds for someone to get to you when you raise your hand. For those changes, let me give the owners two thumbs up! Oh, I love the fact they made a provision for parking too. Parking at the old place used to be hell. So many stories going around of people that get broken windows and stolen side mirrors.

SUMMARY

Rating Card
1 – Waste of money

If I had an awards night for all the restaurants in the Metro, I’d give Mister Kebab the award for the best after-gimik restaurant. If the owners ever manage to find their way to this blog, let me just say that you guys rock and you should keep up the good work. Cheers!

After a night of partying, we’d drive over to a Chinese restaurant like Hapchan or the legendary Mister Kebab along Quezon Avenue to pig out a bit and “chillax”.

The new Mister Kebab along West Avenue

I ended up coming back to Mister Kebab a few days ago when my friends and I decided to have a late midnight snack after playing World of Warcraft together. Hmm… maybe WoW’s the reason my nightlife went ninja vanish? Lol. Read more after the jump.

It’s funny how time flies by so fast right? I feel this more during after-gimik food trips. You usually say that you’ll just eat and talk for like 30 minutes but you end up spending hours just laughing like a crazy bunch of fools. And you don’t really mind if other people stare at your group.

Hmm, let’s play “ghost” for a moment. Imagine yourself floating above Mister Kebab at around 1:30AM on a Saturday. That place would probably be jam packed! It would be an incredible experience to have the ability to just observe and eavesdrop on all the conversations happening. I swear, there’s so much emotion and “variety” going on at Mister Kebab during weekends. In my last trip there, I saw a couple fighting, a lesbian couple doing insane PDA, a group of emo kids wearing all-black and make-up eating keema silently, and the usual party dudes in their tight muscle shirts with their dates in skimpy tops and mini-skirts. Of course, there was my table – the geeky gamers who were talking about how their latest raid in World of Warcraft went, hahaha! Good times.

With all that, let me just say that my next food trip review is about Mister Kebab! I know a lot of you have eaten here already so it will be good to see what you guys have to say about the place. I’ll try to post the review sometime Wednesday evening. I hope all of you have a good week ahead! Cheers.

No, I’m not talking about Mister Kebab. This is actually a rather new place that opened sometime last year. You’ll find it just after the Katipunan flyover going to EDSA. King Kebab can be a bit pricey compared to your average Persian restaurant but they make up for it with the quality of the food that they serve. Their kebabs are just fantastic and always find myself going here if I have a craving for Persian food and if I have excess cash.

QUICKIE FACT SHEET
Name: King Kebab
Location: Katipunan
Type: Persian Food
Price Range (per dish): P150 – P400

Read more about King Kebab after the jump.

So what’s so special about this place? As the name implies, it’s all about Kebabs – or skewered pieces of juicy meat, lol. They serve a variety of Kebabs – Pork, Beef Tenderloin, and Chicken. While they have other dishes as well like Ox Brain, Keema, and Shawarma, their Kebabs are the ones that stand out and define this restaurant. The Kebab meals come with rice and will set you back around P200, while the other smaller dishes go for P120-150.

My personal favorite here is the King Kebab dish. It’s a combination of all of their famous Kebabs – Pork, Chicken, Beef Tenderloin, and a slab of grounded beef as well. It comes with two rice and it goes for around P350. This is actually good for two and this is what Mich and I frequently order when we go here. You have the option of also upgrading it and turning it to a King Kebab Special. The special costs around P450 and it comes with an additional slice of juicy Beef Tenderloin steak.

The Kebabs served here are really good cuts of meat and it won’t disappoint. My only qualm is that the rice that they serve is medyo “bitin” and it costs P35 just for extra rice. I think they serve a special kind of rice called Basmati or something which makes it more expensive. I’d rather they serve normal rice and charge P10 for it. Another thing to note is their sauce. They have two variants, the normal Persian white sauce and the second one is a spicier version. If I were forced to compare the quality and taste of the sauce, I’d have to say that King Kebab’s sauce trumps Mister Kebab’s any day. That’s just my personal opinon though.

In terms of location and cleanliness, it’s your typical open air Persian restaurant. They have a second floor that’s air conditioned but the smell of the food will stick to your clothes if you eat there. The chairs are a bit too hard, but then again that’s not what you’re after when you go to places like this, right?

SUMMARY

Rating Card
1 – Waste of money
2 – Satisfactory – just okay. Nothing special
3 – Wow, something to remember.

It’s not your typical restaurant but this place would be perfect for barkada get-togethers or after-gimmick adventures. It’s not a romantic spot either but if you and your loved one just want good Persian food, then you might want to try this out. The King Kebab is good for two
